You are required to have at least one person on-site from each entity involved with land disturbing activity that is certified by the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission by December 31, 2006. The act has recently been amended, a link describing major changes is at the bottom of this column. Limestone Valley RC&D provides this training through a state certified instructor; Chris D. Adair CPESC erosion control consultant and member of IECA. Chris can be reached by email adair@alltel.net or phone 706-278-7906. We offer the following training:

Erosion & Sedimentation Re-Certification Course:
A certified individual shall be required to attend and participate in at least four (4) hours of approved continuing education courses, as established by the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission, every three years.

Subcontractor Awareness Seminar:
Requires individuals working in a subcontractor capacity under a primary, secondary or tertiary permittee attend an “Awareness Seminar. Please read highlights of the amended Erosion and Sediment Control act regarding the newly required "Subcontractor Awareness Seminar".

Level 1A certification course:
For contractors, builders, developers, site superintendents, grading and utility contractors, plumbers, electricians, city/county maintenance crews and monitoring consultants.

Level 1B certification course:
Regulatory and Non-Regulatory inspectors.

Level II certification course:
Introduction to Design is for "Certified Design Professionals" and "Certified Plan Reviewers".

 

Erosion & Sedimentation Re-Certification Course: 4 Hour Classes Scheduled, no exam:

Subcontractor Awareness Seminar: 2 Hour Classes Scheduled; no exam:

  1. Individuals working as subcontractors have until December 31, 2007 to
    obtain subcontractor certification.
  2. Includes grading personnel and earth moving equipment operators, irrigation
    system personnel (residence, commercial, and industrial).
  3. Plumbers and electricians (will require certification if conducting a land
    disturbing activity within a permitted site.
  4. Best management practice installation personnel and other personnel involved in land disturbing activities acting as a contractor or subcontractor.
  5. If you have Level 1A certification you are exempt from the Subcontractor Awareness Seminar.

Level 1A: Classes Scheduled (including exam only):

  1. You must register for and attend a Conservation Commission approved and posted "Fundamentals Certification Course" (Level 1A), 1 day course
  2. You must submit the appropriate certification application.*
  3. Take and receive a passing score of 70% on the Level 1A certification exam.
  4. A photo ID is required to sit for the exam.
